Full Body Check Up
Filed Under me, life | 16 Comments
After procrastinating for a month, I decided to have my annual body check up at BP near my house instead of Agih (the lab I did last year as they have changed their phone number and I wasn’t informed. Thus I couldn’t reach them. Or have they gone out of business?)
For only RM109, I opted to have a full basic medical check up instead of only checking the cholesterol level (RM40) which was buggering me for the past year. It was way too high. Period.
So, after fasting for exactly 10 hours, I marched to the lab on Wednesday morning. And surprisingly, the syringe didn’t bother me much; probably 3 jabs of Hepatitis vaccination made me a braver person. I could even peek after the syringe was poked into my hand.
I saw a clump of whitish stuff in my blood in the syringe and I asked the medical guy what it was. Sheepishly he answered ‘cholesterol’.
”BAD cholesterol?” I asked. /_\
“Looking at it, yes” he said.
I cringed in the inside. I have given up chicken skin, 90% of egg yolk, 85% of nasi lemak, prawns and I have even had fruits regularly. Even KFC (for different reason though).
I even walked a lot and exercise probably like once or twice every month. Ok, maybe not enough in that department. But I cleaned my room weekly, that should have count for something, doesn’t it?
Anyway, after 36 hours of waiting, positive that my cholesterol level might even go higher (and I probably have a heard attack at 30 and I swear I would not eat any deep fried food this year), I went to collect my medical report.
“Everything seems OK,” the medical girl said.
“The cholesterol level?” I have to ask twice to be sure that she got it right.
And.. phew.. after years months of battling high cholesterol, finally it went border line.. ok, maybe higher than borderline by 0.2 mmol/l for the bad LDL cholesterol. But hey, that is a significant improvement compared to about 13 months ago, which is higher by freaking 1.65 mmol/l! I kid you not! Nobody believes me when I told them I have high cholesterol, looking at my underweight body!
Anyway, the rest was ok. Just that my blood glucose is just at the borderline.
”Cut down on sugar”, she said.
Crap, I don’t even have sweet tooth. Except for the mints that I can’t help popping into my mouth after every meal, and when I was bored. Too many? Mint is not even that sweet, is it?
Well, glad that I can still have my deep fried food this year! Probably I will still take the same diet I have last year, which wasn’t very healthy but still much better than my diets before the cholesterol-thingy. And more fruits. No more McD sundae cone.. maybe limit to once a month?
So, how was your medical check up report looks like?

The Big Chunk Of Life!
Filed Under work, me, life | 9 Comments
I didn’t realise how big the chunk of work in our lives is till I didn’t work for a short while. It makes me realise that work make up a big part of my everyday life.
Without work, I felt lost and unproductive and sort of.. useless. I felt that I am not being like everyone.
It just feel odd and.. very wasted.
Funny how that it comes from a person that hates to work.
Before this, I always thought that how nice if I do not have to give 9 hours to a company 5 days a week. How much time I would have enjoyed doing my own stuff.
I used to think that I need to work as I need the dough. Clearly I do.
But then, I gradually realised that without work, I lost discipline when I am having too much time and even lost interest in doing my very own stuff. Not everyday at least, but most of the time.
It makes me sink deeper into my comfort zone.
And now, I have a few offers from several companies which took me quite a while to decide. The crab, the chicken and also the new addition of lamb chop.
Experience told me that there is no right or wrong decision. We will never know until we try.
Starting a new job soon, I felt that it is going to be a new chapter in my life. Work is such a crucial part in life that starting a new job feels like having a new start in life.
I hope this new life is going to be a smooth and wonderful one.
Happy Chinese New Year, everyone! ^.^

Shepherd Foundation Center (Orphanage)
Filed Under life | 11 Comments
I couldn’t remember if I ever visit an orphanage before and thus, I think the Sunday visit was my first one. The Shepherd’s Foundation Center is located at Semenyih, housed about 78 boys and 25 girls, from as young as about 4 years old! And some elderly too. There are a few terminally ill kids that need a lot of medical attention.
Most of them are Indians and some are Chinese. I joined a group of people in the small charity and bought plenty of groceries (like Milo, Fernleaf, curry powder, maggie mee, rice, soap powders) for them and 2 TVs.

When I was there, I didn’t really feel overwhelming of pity to them coz they seem to be happy to me. Or so I thought. They are just normal children, living together in a place without family. It reminded me of the time I was staying with friends in the hostel in uni. Or a camp.
Then I gradually started to think about their lifestyle. It is not temporary but probably permanent for most of them. They do not have the basic real family of parents, something that I took for granted most of the time.
How about family values? Where do they learn that from? Then I started to think about if they have allowances and trips. I guess it would be hard. Although they might have food to eat and place for shelter, but it would be very different from our normal living, those with a home of their own.
Some children are pretty young. They still need a mom or father to look up for. Someone to be there to pick them up when they are down or bullied by the others. Do they learn how a family function from the television set? Or from observing other family?
Some of the kids have grown up and graduated from the college. I heard that some even have done their master degree. Way to go!
Anyway, the center that have about 100 children 10 senior citizens need about RM60K a month for their expenses and they relied on the public to fund them. Give them a hand if you can afford it.

Free 1 Day Trip~
Filed Under entertainment, fun, me, life | 6 Comments
After five days of long waiting and almost unproductive days, weekend finally arrived! Not waiting for the weekend, but for something else that get on my nerve and I should let it flow along instead of losing my head at other people’s slow response.
Anyway, I was glad to have a blast weekend or it was much better than the rest of the weekends (except last Sat).
Since we got free Genting Outdoor Theme voucher from Jusco for birthday, we decided to make full use of it since I think the last time I played there was almost 8 years ago, or more? The entrance free is already at RM38 for adult and RM27 for children on normal days. Yay, 2 free coupons!
Well, upon reaching there, it was quite misty and very cold and thus we hit the casino first. Ironically, ten years after having the ‘passport’ to enter the casino, they still want to check my ID. With RM100 as capital and betting the ‘big/small’ game (RM25 per bet), we managed to win few rounds and then started to lose to our last RM25! However we managed to pull through the last bet and then started to win again.
We walked away with 85% of profit winning and hit KFC. After all, my one year of banning KFC was finally over and I couldn’t wait to taste the sinful crispy chicken again. =)
By 1pm, the weather was sunny again and excitedly we went to the Outdoor theme park! It was quite cold and I wore my favourite white jacket and comfortable Keen shoes. Not too crowded, nice!
We played six games (Spinner, Tea Cup, Pirate Train, Boating, Flying Dragon, Pirate Ship) before it started to drizzle around 3pm again. So we bought a bowl of expensive Tom Yam instant noodle (RM5.50) and a 500ml mineral water (RM2.50) and had our tea time there in the park. ^.^
Then we headed to Starbuck for my free birthday coffee from HSBC! Before we took the Genting Skyway back to downhill, we went to the First World casino for a while, but decided not to gamble away our RM85 of winning.
After all, everything has been paid for!
A short relaxing & fun trip. Just what I needed.. =)

Chicken Or Crab?
Filed Under me, life | 17 Comments
I am in the middle of a decision again. A tough one. It is between familiarities and comfort VS challenges and time. And the thing is, they are not even confirm yet. At least one of them.
Imagine this. Going to a restaurant and you have to choose between two main courses.
First would be the chicken set. You have tasted chicken before and although it is not exciting, at least you know you can eat it well. You might not have much trouble eating the chicken although you have been eating so much for the past year that you get a little bored and tired of it. But you know it makes you full after eating.

Second main dish is the crab set. Something that you have not eaten before and you are not sure if you are capable of eating them. It looks tougher and more challenging than then chicken. What if you fail to dig out any flesh of the crab? You would definitely spend much more time than you would if you are eating the chicken! But then again, it might taste much better than the chicken despite your sacrifices!

To make it harder, it would be a choice that you would eat for the rest of the year. Or maybe a few years down the road!
But you are very hungry, you need to make a choice fast! And to make thing worse, the crab might even be out of stock.
If you order crab and it is finished, you might not even get your chicken! Ahhh..
So, chicken or crab?
”Familiarities and comfort” OR “challenges and time”?

NY

The other night, I dreamt that I was back to San Francisco. It is really a lovely and beautiful city that I have fallen in love, even before I have step into the place. I love the beautiful slopes and the famous red Golden Gate Bridge and the piers!
If I am given a chance to go again, I would choose to go to New York next. In fact a friend promises that if I am there again, he would fly me to New York on his expenses! But not that I am going to accept it anyway.
I remembered that my colleague and I had to get the rented car from the airport to our residence. I must be thankful to have a colleague that could drive well. If travelling alone, I would have prefer to the Go Airlink Shuttle service instead. It is much more affordable and most importantly, I do not have to drive! They provide excellent NYC Car service throughout New York and surrounding areas.
We can just book easily through the online reservation or by phone reservation. You can rest assured of the punctuality of their service and the comfortable VIP SUV.
Well, let’s hope I have another chance to go there as I really miss the place!

Losing Weight..
Filed Under stuffRM | 3 Comments
Lately I felt that my weight dipped again. It is not unusual for me to lose weight as it happened easily due to braces (though I no longer wearing them), stress, lost of appetite or if I eat only when I am truly hungry or when I do not eat according to schedule.
Like this morning, I only have half a cup of coffee as I am not hungry. I was lazy to eat the tuna sandwich that I can easily make. I didn’t eat till I felt really hungry at lunch time.
I know it is not only bad for my body weight as it is really underweight now but also bad for my health. I tried to make it up by taking supplements, at least every other day. I have read about the BSN Supplements (FitFuel.com) which is an effective way to enhance your physical being in unique way.
There is also weight gainer supplement which I am very tempted to get! At least I can gain some fat for this skinny body of mine. There are also a lot of other supplement products for those who would like to build muscle and body, pre workout and post workout supplements. Not to forget those who like to lose weight too!

EveryDay Mineral~
Filed Under shopping, happy | 10 Comments
Weee…! My third order of online shopping finally arrived earlier this week to my office. It is make-up from EverydayMinerals, thanks to PinkCotton finding and sharing in her blog.
I decided to try the free trial samples (3 foundations, 1 concealer, 1 blush) as well. I couldn’t resist ordering an extra sample size concealer and finishing powder as well as Murumuru Lip Balm (for USD9)!
The total shipping cost me USD6.05 for the First Class International Package which is quite reasonable I think, but take nearly 4 weeks to reach!
The ‘Spring’ concealer works superb for my dark eyes circle, even better than the Benefit’s Lemon Aid and Shu Uemura Eye Correcting Pro Concealer Yellow.
Well, recently I have been getting eye concealer as I realised that it is almost impossible for me to get rid of my 10-year-dark-circles. What I need is a little miracle from the concealer. =P
The mineral foundation is quite ok on my skin but some colours are too dark as the colour in the website looks a little different from the real one. Especially the blush that I chose, though it turns out to be ok and look quite natural on my cheek.
The Murumuru Lip Balm is very cheap as it is quite a large metal container for only USD4. Not bad but smell a little weird.
Overall I am happy with the product and service. Might buy some more next time when I am running out of the concealer and to try out other product. =D

IP MAN
Filed Under movie | 18 Comments
And I decided that this is the best movie in 2009! So far. Yeah, I know 2009 has just started but yet, it is really the best movie I have watched this year! ;P
I am not the type that likes to watch a Chinese movie in the cinema as I felt that the quality of the movie rarely worth the money I am paying for. But this time, somehow I give it a go since someone wanted to watch it so badly.
I love almost every scenes of the movie as I didn’t even glance at my watch to see how long more to go for it to end (which I always did, frequently). And action movie isn’t even my cup of tea in the first place.
It is about the era of Bruce Lee’s master (no Bruce Lee in the show), Ip Man (starred by Donnie Yen) and his excellent Wing Chun Kung Fu; but a big, strong man like him scared respected his taller than him wife a little too much. Then, came the Japanese occupation and how it changed his life. A true story.
So, yeah, that means it is really nice. Go watch it. And before that, do not put too high expectation (even though I said nice). Coz most of the time, expectation kills the movie!
Rate : ***** 4 stars (can’t think of the last time I rated a Chinese movie 4 stars!)

Decaffeinated Coffee?
Filed Under food | 9 Comments
And for the love of coffee, I decided to get myself a decaffeinated coffee from Boncafe; produced and packed in Colombia.
Claims : Lowest caffeine content of not more than 0.1%
Reason being I wish I could enjoy coffee not only in the morning but afternoon and evening as well.
With my recent insomnia, I have even cut the coffee intake to less than a cup a day but my mind seems to be so active 10 minutes when I got into bed. Even without caffeine intake during the day!
I think I gotta do something before I reach out for the sleeping pill that have been laying in my drawer for a whole year, untouched; however tempted I am!
Anyway, I have yet to try it. It is RM9.20 from Jusco for the 50gm bottle which I think is a little expensive but I ain’t got no other choice. Though I would have preferred the instant 3-in-1 type as I am lousy in making coffee.
A cuppa coffee, anyone?
