I have came across this title many times before, whether it was from reading a book or watching a movie. And yeah, I have to admit I have no idea what the story was about.

But I was curious about it as the title was rather cute, or dangerous. And thus I finally downloaded the movie.

It was an old movie alright. In fact it was in black and white! And so I wasn’t very keen of watching it and kept it for a few months.

But as I was quite boring last week, I thought maybe I could have a quick view on what was it about. But when I started on the movie, I couldn’t stop till I finish watching it!!

It was really an exceptional and inspiring movie. No wonder it ranked no.2 by the American Film Institute on the 100 Most Inspiring Movies of All Time in 2006 and ranked as the #25 Greatest Movie of All Time in 2007!

It was about a lawyer who defended a black man when he was accused of raping a white girl during the 1930s in a racial era. It was also about two children and the discrimination of the black and mentally retarded people. I love the little girl, Mary Badham who acted so well in the movie.

I am glad I watched it. Now I am hoping to read the novel itself as it is a best book ever written. =)

Rate : 4 stars!

Have you watched/read it yet?

Thanks to Yun for recommending comedy drama Lipstick Jungle to me. I have watched the first episode of Season 1 and I’ve approved to download the rest of them! ^.^

It is based on a best selling novel by Candace Bushnell (hey, JeremyC just finished one of her books) about 3 successful women, each with their own problems in life.

I am done reading ‘The Bitch Goddess Notebook’ last week. It was dark. Nothing like the happy ending book I always read. A little depressing book on lives that really happened to real people but didn’t get much attention like the fairy tales and happy ending lives.

Now I am starting on a next book ‘Just Friends’ by Robyn Sisman. Which I suspected I have rented read it before years ago, which only means my taste of picking book ain’t differs much from last time. Back to chick lit and romance and happy ending.. My life is so pathetic..

Happy weekend. And you, stop beating around the bush. Just tell me straight.

God, I nearly forgot how awful Monday could be when you hafta work in the office. It makes the week seems longer and unendurable as well. Which makes me appreciate working from home on Monday even more!

I was denied of this privilege when my colleague from US came for this couple of weeks. And thank God, the 2 weeks is about to over soon. (^.^)

Anyway, last weekend was full of
warehouse sales and flea markets. Well, economy is bad and I have to do with these. It was quite enjoyable especially with the odd things you found at the flea markets!

And I have finished the Skinny Bitching by Jenny Lee book that I rented a couple of weeks ago. Kinda hilarious and makes me wanna enjoy my twenties before it is gone in a snap!

Feeling a little b*tchy, I am up for another b*tching book : The Bitch Goddess Notebook by Martha O’connor which is supposed to be “Dark, compelling and not for the faint hearted”.

And yeah, I think I can use a little dark and put aside chick lit for the moment. And also my Cleo magazine which I think I couldn’t finish it on time before the end of the month.

And so, happy Tuesday! Trust me, Friday is just around the corner! :P

Lately, I’ve spent less and less time on reading, magazine included. I took 1 to 2 months to finish Cleo!!! Anyway, I borrowed a very nice novel from my housemate, SST lately which I managed to finish quite fast, a month or two (yes, it is considered fast for my slow pace lately). The novel title is ‘The Memory Keeper’s Daughter’ by Kim Edwards (513 pages).

I must say I really enjoy reading every single page of this book, right from the beginning. The story is very touching with a tinge of regret and sorrow. It is about a doctor, David, whose wife delivered a twin babies on a winter night in 1964. The baby boy, Paul was perfect while the little girl, Phoebe has Down Syndrome.

The kind doctor, David couldn’t put his wife through an agony life by bringing up their daughter, as he had watched his mother’s heart was broken when his sick sister died in early age. So, on impulse, he gave away his daughter, Phoebe who was eventually brought up by his nurse in another state. David told his wife, Norah that their daughter was dead upon birth.

With his fateful decision, their lives still went on as David struggled to keep his secret and Norah couldn’t let go of the fact over death daughter. A wall built up between them with the daughter’s absence, haunting their lives and Norah’s loneliness in the years to come. The son, Paul was always seeking for approval from his father but against him in his choices of life. He felt that he couldn’t connect to him and knowing his mother’s affairs make things worse.

Meanwhile, Phoebe was brought up with love by the nurse, Caroline. They faced a lot of challenges with the society unable to accept Down Syndrome child gracefully. But she grew up as a happy young lady and fell in love with a guy. Her life was simple but yet she was happy and contented, unlike Paul who had everything yet unhappy.

The ending wasn’t what I expected which makes me ache for David and Norah, as well as the children. It was a well written, sorrowful book, with many lost years in a family and a fate that no one can control, a life tragedy. A stunning heart breaking story..
