What do I like about Puasa Month?
Filed Under food | 16 Comments
The only thing that I really like about fasting month for the Muslim is the Pasar Ramadhan! There are so many stalls with many different type of foods such as fried noodles, percik chicken, satay, variety of kueh, murtabak, drinks and others! Yum~
I noticed there is a Pasar Ramadhan nearby my office last Thursday but I didn’t have a chance to try them till today!
So I quickly leave office at 6.35pm, hoping that they haven’t sold out yet.
Finally decided to have a ayam percik and murtabak ayam for dinner. Only to realise that I had black pepper chicken chop rice for lunch! Ahh.. so much chicken today!
Anyway it was rather nice although quite sinful! ;)

P/S : Another thing I like about fasting month is right after that, 2 days of Hari Raya holiday!

Thai Specialty ~
Filed Under food | 29 Comments
For those who have been to Thailand, they know how tasty is this simple, exotic Thai food. But for those who have never been there or never tried it, they would look at it sceptically, what’s so special about it? It’s just mango and sticky rice.
Ahh.. my heart goes out for those who didn’t have a chance to try it yet!
Many of my friends who have been to Thai boasted to me how nice and tasty it was. But I missed it when I was in Bangkok last year!!! Actually I didn’t know it was their specialty and so I only went for green curry and Tomyum Kung.
And so when there is this Thai fair in KL Central, I was elated and wanna try them out. The small stall was operated by original Thais! So, it is fairly authentic!!!
It was a very crowded stall especially during lunch and dinner time with long queue. Well, it didn’t disappoint us! The Tomyam kung was very flavourful and hot and the papaya salad Som Tam was appetizing!
The mango and sticky rice is just.. perfect! Yum~!

Finally I have perfected found the art of cooking the oat porridge that I dreaded but I have to eat. If you don’t know yet, oat is great food that fights cholesterol.
And I have practically forced convinced myself to swallow eat it twice every week. I couldn’t bear to eat it for breakfast, as it would have to pathetic..! Or so I felt. I couldn’t forego my daily cuppa coffee too!
So there. After many attempts of experiments, I finally found the absolute delicious right recipe for the bland, tasteless oat..

Cheese!!!
Yes, cheese! It makes the oats smoother and cheesy! Obviously only for mouse those who loves cheese. (^.^)
A single cheddar cheese works wonder~!
I also add Chinese sausage (lup cheong), fu zhuk and carrots! And I topped it with plenty of anchovies, peanuts and black sesame. Yum~
P/S : Apparently cheddar cheese has cholesterol too! /_\

Budget Good Food~
Filed Under photo, food | 11 Comments
Being not-so-hungry, we are not too sure what to eat on Sunday night. When we saw the promotion for Hainan Village at Manjalara, Kepong, we decided to give it a try.
It was really a very value meal as they are so many dishes for RM9.80 and it was quite good. Though the green curry chicken gravy isn’t as thick as I like, it tasted quite nice too.
The tempura-styled-deep-fried-kang-kung is really crispy and scrumptious. All the side dishes are yummy too except for the soup-of-the-day which is just like what you get at hawker stall. But for RM9.80 it was acceptable and worth it.

I ordered a French toast which I have forgotten to take the picture as I was too engrossed with the food! It was really delicious as well and I will certainly be back for more!

Korean BBQ Chicken~
Filed Under photo, food | 11 Comments
This year, even with a little love to KFC, I have decided to stand firm and ban KFC for a year after watching the KFC cruelty chicken video.
I have found many of the KFC cruelty videos in YouTube and other sites. I wanted to put up a video here but decided to remove it as it was really too cruel to look at. You can find a lot of the videos here.
Though I really missed the crispy fried chicken, I have stand it for more than six month and I keep reminding about the cruelty. Well, let just see if I can make the same resolution next year.
Anyway, I really miss fried chicken as I have sort of refrain myself from indulging it due to my high cholesterol. But after seeing the mouth watering lunch pictures taken by BabyFiona, I couldn’t help but try it for myself!
Yes, the Korean BBQ Chicken.
I must admit I have never known its existence. But since it is fried using olive oil, I suppose it is rather healthy, or maybe just not that sinful, right? At first I thought it was a fast food as I was going to the counter to order. But it is a restaurant alright.
I ordered the smoked chicken after battling for 5 minutes over it with teriyaki chicken. However I had a taste of one of the original
fried chicken as well. It was really very yummy, despite the restaurant being rather empty on Saturday night.
The smoked chicken is very tender and tasteful and the whipped potato is good too when it was warm.

The fried chicken is really crunchy and yummy!!! Writing this post and looking at the pictures make me wanna go back again soon! Drool~!!!

But the drink is a little expensive, RM5.50 for a soft drink! But at least it is bottomless and being cheapskate, we ordered one drink and shared among two.

Pomegranate~
Filed Under food | 11 Comments
Have you heard or taste pomegranate? I am not sure if I have or not as my memory don’t seem to serve me well these days. I always thought I have not done something that I apparently have done; which freaks me out a little.
Anyway, I couldn’t recall ever eaten a pomegranate before. As I passed by the fruit stalls on the way to work, I thought I glimpse on this fruit on the glass shelves but I didn’t have time to stop and buy. But I told myself to get it if I saw it again on the way home and I did!
It cost RM2.50 for a small packet! But what the heck, it looked quite tempting for me to try it and so I bought it.
It taste quite sweet with very slight tinge of sour which I really like. There is a tiny seed in each of it but I could just chew on it and swallow. It is as juicy as it look; yum!!~
And after googling it, I found that pomegranate is indeed packed with goodness such as triple antioxidants found in red
wine or green tea!!!! WOW! Pomegranate also contains lots of Vitamin A, C, E, folic acid, potassium and niacin~! It is used in cuisine as well as traditional medicine.
It is beneficial in reducing arterial plague, blood pressure and most importantly cholesterol! I am all sold and I guess I would invest more RM2.50 for the juicy, sweet fruit~! Yum~
P/s : I would update my Hanoi pics as soon as I could.. Too many pics to filter and it's really overwhelming~ >_<

Pan Mee & Chilly~
Filed Under food | 13 Comments
Pan Mee has always been one of my favourite. When I was younger, my mum would make us pan-mee in soup with shredded eggs, anchovies and chicken for dinner sometimes. It was a simple meal but we just loved it. But she has stopped making pan mee for us, as I couldn’t recall the last time she made it.
In Malacca, it is refers as ‘mee-hoon-kueh’ instead of ‘pan-mee’ and most of them are made using hand instead of machine.
A couple of weeks ago, my colleague mentioned a nice chilly pan mee in Damansara Uptown, which is the branch of the famous chilly pan mee in KL.
So, not knowing what to eat for lunch on Sunday, we decided to give it a try. After some rounding in Uptown, I found this Yong Kee‘Traditional & Fushion Pan Mee’ (same row as HSBC) but I am not sure if it is the same one as recommended by my colleague.
It was rather nice but the spicy Kam Heong pan mee that I ordered is rather spicy (after eating half of it) and towards the end, it is a little oily but I guess that’s what makes it tasty. =P The Klang-styled pan mee was rather good too although it is quite a traditional soup pan mee.

Steamboat, anyone?
Filed Under photo, food | 15 Comments
I am not really crazy about steamboat as since young, the steamboats I have are always full of balls. Yeah, like fish balls, prawn balls, fish cake and stuffs from the same family. I only like meat balls and ‘fu zhuk’ (don’t know what you call it in English).
Besides, how can steamboat beats satay celup from my hometown, right!?!
But…! There is a nice steamboat place (in fact many at the same areas) at Kepong Manjalara which is very famous for the steamboat! Even a non-fancy-steamboat would drool whenever I think of the spicy, delicious-tom-yam soup! Yum!
I just had it again last 2 weekend ago and it’s really good and not that pricey. Around RM15.xx per pax I reckon.
A full plates of food, with Yee Mee noodles and MeeHoon and eggs~

Why do I forced myself to eat OAT?
Filed Under me, food | 9 Comments
Much as I hate to eat oat, I forced myself to eat it at least once a week (sometimes I only eat once a month!). But when I was in US I ate 2-3 times a week with peach and strawberry, coz I did not to prepare it and it tasted so good! ^.^
Anyway, reason why I wanted to eat oat is to lower my stupid cholesterol level (which so shouldn't be high at my age and for my size! Darn!).
More reasons I should be eating more of the oats :
· It contains insoluble fiber's cancer-fighting properties
· Soluble fiber which may reduce bad cholesterol
· Less likely to develop heart disease
· Good source of many nutrients including vitamin E, zinc, selenium, copper, iron, manganese and magnesium and protein too!
Why do all the food that is so good for you taste oh-so-bad!

P/S : This post is just to remind myself to eat more OAT and the benefit of it~

Glorious food!
Filed Under USA, travel, food | 13 Comments
I try to have more different varieties of food while I am in US. The thing is Asian foods are pretty common in US and you can get it almost anywhere. But of course there is no 'wan tan mee' or 'pan mee' or I have yet to see them so far. Some food are better than Malaysia's and some are not. Thai tomyam food is good though, or was it because the weather was cold?
My almost same usual daily breakfast..
I am pretty done with American food for sure as it is mostly about deep fried or burger and of course fries too. But I like their sausages especially the pork as it is so tender & really yummy.
Fried Seafood Platter..
"In and Out" Vegetarian Burger (coz all others are beef and I couldnt eat beef!)
Cheese and hams (layers!) sandwiches with fries.. Very oily fries!!!
Free light evening meals (doesnt seems to be light at all, huh) at our residence/hotel but only up to 7pm. This is the first and only time we manage to have it.
I have tried other food which is rather good like the Taco (Mexican food), Greek food, Italian, Taiwanese and their Pakistan curry. Quite yummy. Even the BBQ Korean here is delicious and the Japanese food in San Francisco was good too. But the chinese food here is not as good.
Japanese Shrimp Fried Rice with extra big portions and generous amount of fresh shrimps!
Vietnamese Cold Noodles with BBQ Meat.. Quite nice but huge too!
Chinese Food, don't really like it..
Another chinese food..taste so so only. But de one plate of meat is one serving for one person!!! Damn large!
Taiwanese Food. Look at the amount of the pork! Freaking big size for one person!
I couldn't believe the pork so I took it home and have it for dinner the next night, with instant noodle (and fruit juice), still looks good, eh? And yes, ppl here takes home what they cannot finish..
Wonderfully yummy Pakistan (I think) Kebab & Curry for only $8 buffet lunch!!! Love the lamb & chicken!
One of my favourite meals, the Mexican Taco with spicy pork and bean! I love de small serving too!
The buffet dinner which only cost around USD12.xx (without tips) and de salad was good. I didnt eat as much as I would normally do in Malaysia's buffet.
Italian meal at Olive Garden, de salad is huge (meant to be for 1 person but we share), de soup was good and I was too full for the main dish (pasta filled with mushroom) which was quite nice too..
Mexican Burrito, wrapped with beans, rice, chicken and corn (all u can choose by urself), quite good but very filling!
Darn good Korean BBQ food, especially de pork! Best meats I ever have in US! De taste is heavenly! Though in very big portion too..
Greek food, I dont know what it is called. But quite nice. Something different..
The really-delicious-seafood-thai-tom-yum! With rice..
Haagan Dazs ice cream is pretty cheap here for only USD3.60 for a pint (around 500ml) which sells around RM28 in Isetan, Malaysia.
Dreyer's ice cream - cherry vanilla flavour~
The waffle that I made at breakfast (in hotel) and Aunt Anne's Pretzel! Almost de same like Malaysia (maybe slightly better) and de price also same! USD2.90~ Expensive!
And yeah, the frozen food where you can get at supermarket at a rather small portion but there was many varieties, I really mean a lot of varieties! I have tried 2 so far and it tasted pretty good though it is unhealthy! ^.^
The frozen-and-mircowaved chicken pie, quite good too..:D
The porkchop frozen food, not too bad..
Last but not least, my favourite berries!!! Blackberries, raspberies and blueberries. The bottom is the cherries and grapes! Yum yum~

My Daily American Breakfast..
Filed Under USA, travel, food | 7 Comments
There are a lot of Asian foods in US, apart from the American food. In fact I think I consumed more Asian food in these 5 days, if excluding breakfast which is provided by the apartment, American buffet.
I quite like it although it is the same choices every single day. The sausages that was made from pork was fabulous and I couldn’t help consuming at least one piece although it is oily and very unhealthy!
There are also scrambled eggs, toast or wedges, breads, donuts, muffin, oats, 3 choices of cereals, peach, strawberry, pancakes and some fruits. For drinks, there are coffee, decaf coffee, hot chocolate or variety of teas.
Everyday I have very heavy breakfast and I enjoyed it very much!

The place where breakfast is served, buffet..
The donuts but I never tried any of them before. Must try at least once!
I usually have one sausage (on weekend I'll take two) with some scrambled eggs and potatoes (or bread). They don't have chilly sauce so I'll eat with Tabasco sauce (which is very common here) and I really like it a lot!
Next, I'll have a bowl of oats or cereals with raisins, nuts, peach and strawberry! Healthy, eh?

If I eat cereal, I'll add on the milk. Sometimes I'll add on a Yogurt too, so really very filling!!!
