I have read or heard one too many good reviews of this movie and decided to give it a try. Perhaps it was of high expectation or maybe it was movie of the high school level, I didn’t find it as exhilarating as it should be.

What’s more it is about vampire, a pretty teenage girl falling in love with glistering (under the sun) good looking hunk vampire.

It was like.. hmm.. a classic love story? Boy meet girl; boy loves girl & girl loves boy? Oh my, not even any thrilling twist!!

Except that he is a vampire. A vegetarian one that’s it. :P

And high school! Boy, that was like so over my era now. No wonder I am not connecting. :P

The vampire thingy is so used to be my type, as I grew up reading the Christopher Pike’s The Last Vampire series. It was like my favourite novels back then, reading every single of them available in our old school library.

As of other western movie, they like to keep the ending open, you know, for a perhaps the sequel of the movie. However the movie isn’t slow which keeps me watching till the end (in 2 seating though due to lack of time rather than boredom).

Anyway, it still certainly better than the recently watched Beverly Hills Chihuahua (rated 1.5 stars) but not as good as the Sex And The City movie (3.5 stars), although I had rather high expectation towards this movie as well. Especially after I just finished watching the 6 episodes of this series, which was rather addictive and err.. sexual.

“And so the lion fell in love with the lamb”.

And I decided that this is the best movie in 2009! So far. Yeah, I know 2009 has just started but yet, it is really the best movie I have watched this year! ;P

I am not the type that likes to watch a Chinese movie in the cinema as I felt that the quality of the movie rarely worth the money I am paying for. But this time, somehow I give it a go since someone wanted to watch it so badly.

I love almost every scenes of the movie as I didn’t even glance at my watch to see how long more to go for it to end (which I always did, frequently). And action movie isn’t even my cup of tea in the first place.

It is about the era of Bruce Lee’s master (no Bruce Lee in the show), Ip Man (starred by Donnie Yen) and his excellent Wing Chun Kung Fu; but a big, strong man like him scared respected his taller than him wife a little too much. Then, came the Japanese occupation and how it changed his life. A true story.

So, yeah, that means it is really nice. Go watch it. And before that, do not put too high expectation (even though I said nice). Coz most of the time, expectation kills the movie!

Rate : ***** 4 stars (can’t think of the last time I rated a Chinese movie 4 stars!)

Mamma Mia!

I think I am a little late to be writing about this movie. But the fact is I watched it a little too late but thank God, the movie was still airing in cinema last Sat (not sure about today though). Thanks for the high recommendation from Gracie, which made me felt that I should watch it in big screen instead of downloading it.

I was smitten of the movie right from the beginning at the very song that she sang. It was beautiful and lovely and charming!

I didn’t know what the story was about when I stepped into the cinema but the movie was simple and nice. I just love the movie very much and it makes me feel light hearted and makes love so beautiful. Or it supposes to be. And wedding to be so joyous and everyone was happy for you.

And it was lovely movie with gorgeous girl and handsome hunks. I love the addictive Abba songs. And yeah, like Gracie, I wouldn’t mind watching it all over again!

So for those that haven’t watched them yet, you know who you are, just go and watch it (
if it is still showing) with your girlfriend. Money back guaranteed from GSC. ;)

I have came across this title many times before, whether it was from reading a book or watching a movie. And yeah, I have to admit I have no idea what the story was about.

But I was curious about it as the title was rather cute, or dangerous. And thus I finally downloaded the movie.

It was an old movie alright. In fact it was in black and white! And so I wasn’t very keen of watching it and kept it for a few months.

But as I was quite boring last week, I thought maybe I could have a quick view on what was it about. But when I started on the movie, I couldn’t stop till I finish watching it!!

It was really an exceptional and inspiring movie. No wonder it ranked no.2 by the American Film Institute on the 100 Most Inspiring Movies of All Time in 2006 and ranked as the #25 Greatest Movie of All Time in 2007!

It was about a lawyer who defended a black man when he was accused of raping a white girl during the 1930s in a racial era. It was also about two children and the discrimination of the black and mentally retarded people. I love the little girl, Mary Badham who acted so well in the movie.

I am glad I watched it. Now I am hoping to read the novel itself as it is a best book ever written. =)

Have you watched/read it yet?

Thanks to Yun for recommending comedy drama Lipstick Jungle to me. I have watched the first episode of Season 1 and I’ve approved to download the rest of them! ^.^

It is based on a best selling novel by Candace Bushnell (hey, JeremyC just finished one of her books) about 3 successful women, each with their own problems in life.

I am done reading ‘The Bitch Goddess Notebook’ last week. It was dark. Nothing like the happy ending book I always read. A little depressing book on lives that really happened to real people but didn’t get much attention like the fairy tales and happy ending lives.

Now I am starting on a next book ‘Just Friends’ by Robyn Sisman. Which I suspected I have rented read it before years ago, which only means my taste of picking book ain’t differs much from last time. Back to chick lit and romance and happy ending.. My life is so pathetic..

Happy weekend. And you, stop beating around the bush. Just tell me straight.

I wish I can just write about the KungFu Panda review that I have just watched recently. It’s in my mind since last Sunday, I mean I wanted to review it but I just haven’t really gotten the mood or time as I keep wanting to do something else. Like watching PS I Love You that I have downloaded for the second time due to the first was a cinema version and the subtitle didn’t match.

I don’t know why but watching movie with subtitle is crucial to me. I am not good at catching what they said and I must know exactly what is the conversation is or I’ll just lost my interest watching it.

So I downloaded all over again and watched it all by myself and it was an amazing movie. (if you got the subtitle right and clear screen of course!)

It was superb and very touching. Guess watching alone was right as I hate getting teary with companions.

I am simply moved by the way the story, or more to the act of love by the hero in the movie. He died of brain tumour. But he got a plan to make her move on with her life as he knew she would be not over him when he went to heaven.

It was just amazing (I can’t emphasize enough) and well, another romance movie though but a well written one. I am so tempted to write about the story but well if you really want to know, you might as well as watch it. It’s good (again, if you like romance) movie. ^.^

About KungFu Panda, I was told it was frigging hilarious (yeah that’s the exact word) and so I wanted to watch it due to the word “frigging” he used. I trusted him. It must be damn good. And I raised my expectation so high.

And so I went to cinema with this arrogant vibes, sit back and went “humour me”. I guess that didn’t really work out as I should have known through numerous experiences.

Expectations are not meant to be met.

It was funny alright, I laughed. But I was waiting to be really humoured with the sky-high-expectation. And it serves me right that I didn’t get it.

Wait a minute…!

It wasn’t me who raised the expectation. It is everyone else that says it is a damn good hilarious movie. Even the US movie chart shows that it is top 2!!!

Well, maybe I’ll download the Kung Fu Panda in English version next time and watch it with lower expectation. It might do me good. So yeah..

P/S: The ‘PS I Love You’ might not be that touching (
well, just to lower your expectation). :P

Atonement~

Filed Under me, movie | 9 Comments

It is not exactly the kind of movie I want to watch, as it seems to portray about a boring and dull show, like The Kite Runner which was agonizing to watch although the story was quite ok. I need a light movie, something that can make me laugh or dance after watching it. I have enough bitterness in myself which I couldn’t quite fight it.

That is why I kept the movie untouched for more than a month, contemplating to delete or burn without watching it. But yesterday, feeling extremely tired due to lack of sleep, I really want and need to switch off the light and sink into deep slumber after dinner, by 9pm.

But I knew, I would be very frustrated when my sleep was interrupted by the volume of the few ‘altec lansing speakers’ in my house when they started their peak performance around 10pm. And I was not wrong with my premonition, again.

And thus, I decided to watch Atonement, hoping that the monotony of the movie would make me sleep easier later, sinking the thick insomnia that has been hovering over me for the past week.

But alas, I was quite wrong!

In fact I quite enjoy the movie although it was a little slow but it didn’t stop me from wanting to know the ending, feeling the pain caused by the young actress, wanting to turn back the time and correct what was wrong. So wrong.

For a start, I really love the classic mansion and the flowery wallpaper in their house that I absolutely adore as well as the vast greenery surrounding it. Very English. Captivating!

And the little girl with short blonde hair (with the same style till she aged 70!) who impressed me with her marvelous language that she churned out so easily when writing plays and stories. It was simply beautiful.

A girl who sees too much for her age of 13 couldn’t grasp the situation in full, made a fatal accusation which has caused the happiness and future of a young couple. It brings so much regret and anguish in her life, never given the chance to atone.

It made me ache with her, feeling terribly forlorn and helpless.

It was a gloomy movie; feeling the dark grief haunting me as I tried to fight the insomnia with a spoonful of cough medicine, replacing the sleeping pill that I yearned for.

Sometimes, we just couldn’t turn back the time..

Perhaps I did find a new love after all. Something that has been occupying my mind all the time; the first thing in the morning and the last thing before I go to bed. Even have nightmares coz thinking too much of it.

But it was a sweet one and makes me happy to be in control (or out of control sometimes).

Is this
love?

It all started when I realized that I have been missing it for 2 weeks!!! Man, how could it be! I never missed it in my entire life. It drained me and left me helpless.

Oh, what am I to do? Do I fret or do I cry?  Suddenly I realized that I gotta do something! I can't sit back and do nothing and feel
miserable. 2 weeks are enough!

And so, armed with some knowledge from a male friend, I decided to do it. Do something that I never want to do before. Do something illegal. Do something before it's too late!!! >_<

And so with that, on that very night, I setup UTorrent and download the Desperate Housewives Season 4!!!

I suppose the secondary Streamyx broadband line in my room (paid by the company) came just at the right time for me to start the 'downloading business', all night long~

Once I start, I cannot stop! I have been browsing the nets for other movies to download. Watching the download-kpbs increased makes my heart pumps faster, like watching the stock market goes up!

And on Sunday morning, I finally was able to sit back and devoured the missed-episodes of Desperate Housewives Season 4. ^.^

Oh
, sweet, juicy love~

Over the weekend, thanks to GSC-Fun-Break-Buy1-Free-1-voucher, I went for two movies; a comedy and a horror.

Ah Long Ptd Ltd is a hilarious Singapore + Malaysia movie which was about the reformation of “Ah Long” (loan shark). It is about a young lady taking over the Ah-long leadership and how she was trying to restructure the violent triad to a gentle-loving-money-lender triad.

She also married a very
soft-feminine man (ah kua) who is a very funny but loving guy. I totally enjoyed the movie, the sarcasms, hilarity and the creativity of the story. A great comedy for those who can use some laugh and need some humour~

Rule Number 1 : I couldn’t believe that I am watching 2 Chinese movies within 2 days in cinema! I always think that it is sufficient to watch Chinese movie in DVD (but now is half-priced-ticket, so rule changed :P ). It is a rather slow-paced-movie (read : a little boring) with some scary-eerie-effect-scenes.  Starred : Ekin Cheng (he is getting older, man!)

The story is about police inspector Lee was transferred to Miscellaneous Affair Department (MAD) which investigate on supernatural cases. When a ghost possessed a body, it could switch to another human by a single touch. The ghost could only be ‘terminated’ (killed) by shooting on the possessed person before it touch another human.

I don’t really like the ending of the story which was a little sad. But there was a twist in the movie which I decided to declare that it is worth-watching (on DVD or half-priced-ticket ONLY).

Rating : 3 stars.

(even difficult to find it's poster! this is the best I can find)

27 Dresses~

Filed Under movie | 7 Comments

Free food tastes better, so they said and I believe same goes with free movie.

Yup, I just watched another free movie which happened to be good and very enjoyable. It is certainly better than Jumper and CJ7, or so the girls thought.

27 Dresses is chick flick movie that was on cinema when I was in US. A colleague of mine, middle age man actually watched it and said it was rather a good movie. :|

And finally it is coming to Malaysia soon and we got 4 free movie passes for the preview! Yay!!! We marched to KLCC after work on Tuesday. And boy, wasn't I glad to be back to KLCC? Of course I headed over to my favorite store, Watson (how I miss it) and to Maxis to change my mobile plan.

Anyway, back to the movie. It was starred by the same girl from Grey Anatomy (Katherine Heigl) and about her loving to be bridesmaid and help out in weddings. She was in love with her perfect boss but when her pretentious-sister marched back into her life, she stole her boss right from under her nose and was going to marry him!

Jane has problem saying no to anyone, especially her baby sister that behaves like a baby and never think of others. And then came along this guy Kevin that was so cynical and didn't believe in marriage.

Well, how would it end? The movie was a rather funny with romance and a hottie hunk, Kevin. ^.^  A good movie that makes me excited that I couldn't sleep at night. (=.=)"

The WarLords

Filed Under movie | 7 Comments

I don’t watch Chinese movie in the cinema, especially if the movie is about war or actions, something that I bore me to death. But since it was MJ’s birthday and she expressed the desire to watch WarLords, a movie that I have no idea about and would never picked, I surprised myself by being a good sport and watch it during New Year eve!

More surprising was I find the movie interesting and enjoyed watching it from the beginning till the end! Yes, it’s true! I would even recommend it (coming from one that hate LOTR or any war movies).

The movie was about 3 great war leaders, acted by
Jet Li, Andy Lau and stunningly handsome Takeshi Kaneshiro who became sworn brothers to fight poverty of their village. I wondered if war really happened as in the movie as it was really gruesome, brutal and full of blood!

But as he became powerful, greed crept into the heart and disregards their initial intention to save the poor and being bully.

A wonderful movie, well played by the 3 main actor, real and touching.

I watched this movie as it is one of the few asterisk-movies in GSC, reason being I get to watch an asterisk-movie for free on my birthday month! I watched the preview before and it looked funny, real funny as Ben Stiller was in it!

But hey, again, perhaps my expectation was a little too high. It was a little draggy and the supposed-to-be-horrible-wife wasn’t that bad after all. Not as funny as I would have expected it to be but not too bad! And Ben Stiller himself wasn’t the real good guy and husband after all.

No suspense, no high point, just a little funny scenes here and there.

The preview was really overrating the movie!

Thank God it’s free movie!
