I suddenly thought of it early this October. It was suppose do be every Sept and March/April. But this year I didn’t hear of it. None. Have I missed it? Oh no…  O.O

I have been religiously celebrating it for about 3 years already, twice a year. And I just couldn’t wait for it to come again.

And then I do what I do best, I googled : RM2 Sushi King Promotion Bonanza 2009 on Kaiten Belt. Yes, RM2 for a plate of sushi of rice based!

And ah, I found it! What a relief. I suppose they have postponed it to October instead of the usual September due to the fasting month for Muslim.

After a tipping of PinkCotton from her blog, I decided to get Sushi King membership for Year 2009 myself! Yay!

And do not miss great event of cheap sushi. I will pounce at those yummy unagi and prawns and let’s forget about cholesterol for a while. It will be a reason for us to meet up again, me & my girls. ^.^

The auspicious date is from 13 – 15 Oct 08 for West Malaysia and 20-23 Oct 08 for East Malaysia. Can’t wait!

P/S : And for a taste of dark and twisted (if you ain’t get enough from my previous post), do check out this cool set ‘I Destroy Angel pictures which is the highlight of PhotoKaki.com forum, Malaysia’s Top Photography Forum.

It is rainy season again due to the Emperor Gods Festival or otherwise famously known as the “Kau Wong Yeh” festival. It wasn’t a festival that I celebrated as a child or when I have grown up.

It was something very unfamiliar to me as I do not know what it is all about. But I have heard that to some people it is grand festival.

KW brought me to the Kau Wong Yeh festival in Ampang after work on Friday. When I reached there, I realise that I have been to there before a few years back. But I couldn’t recall who did I go with and when.

It drizzled a little when we reached and the place was kinda muddy. There were many stalls there selling all kind of stuffs, from colourful candies, to wind chimes, incense, red bun tortoise for prayers offering, bracelets, fengshui stalls and even Maxis were there. Of course there were plenty of food stalls selling vegetarians food and other delicacy.

Besides that, there were many old beggars begging for me money as well. I was informed that the temple was next to a huge old folk’s home. I felt sorry for them as there were so old and still have to beg for money at the last few years of their lives. What are the stories behind them?

Anyway, we had some expensive and not so yummy vegetarian food and also yummy yau-char-kuai that were sold there. We didn’t pray as we were told that you have to be vegetarian for a whole day before praying there (not sure if it is true).

Anyway it is quite an experience. =)

Yes, we got up at 5am to go to the Rainbow Waterfall, a much harder attempt since we were already deprived of sleep. But thank God, we were brought to the ‘pasar’ for a quick breakfast first. 2 half boiled eggs, toasted bread and teh-si-peng~ (^.^) My ideal breakfast~

Next we climbed on a lorry and sat there for one and half hour of trip on the ‘jungle’! It was a very bumpy ride as there wasn’t any paved path but only a track full of stones. The lorry even waded small streams and the uneven journey was really a horrible one!

We have to grip tightly or else we might slipped off our seat, which was just bench on the lorry, with no cover on top of the lorry. We were just exposed to the rain or the sun (or those tree branches during the journey). (=.=)”

I was glad when we arrived and I thought that’s it, where was my rainbow??? To my dismay, we have to hike for an hour through the jungle. It was not an easy one since we have to go through some rivers with the slippery rocks and stuffs.

I wasn’t mentally prepared for it and thus find it even tougher. But finally, after being bitten by 3 leeches I finally reached the waterfall!

And… it wasn’t a huge one as expected too. But boy, wasn’t I glad to be seated down and enjoy the scenery and gobbled down the ‘chee cheung fun’ that we we brought along.

And not long after that, many tourists arrived and the place turned into a market with all the noise, people cheering and shouting, smoking, cooking instant noodles and stuffs. (=.=)"

And yeah, I saw the rainbow around 10am when the sun shines and it was quite constant. Anyway, we were told that we are lucky as it doesn’t appear everyday. (^.^)

And I braved myself back to the hiking which took 45 minutes and 2 hours of bumpy lorry ride under the mercy of hot scorching sun!!! T.T

That’s it. I shall never be back Sg Lembing. Those who have never go before can go at least once for experience. But twice is a little too much for trip like this. =P

This picture is taken while roaming the small town of Sg Lembing. Colorful houses of the small town. ^.^

I have bitten by the virus of I-m-so-lazy-to-update-my-blog. And I must admit the virus attack has getting more serious by the rate I am blogging; from every single day to twice a week and I fear the rate going to drop even further and I am forced to close down the blog. /_\

There are things I can write about which is the Sungai Lembing trip which I bet everyone else would have already written about it. I am 9 days late..

It was a trip of 12 people, not everyone know everyone else but at least each know at least other 3 and at least one person knows everyone, yeah being the co-organizers.

It is a place known for the famous rainbow waterfall and probably nothing else as it is a super-hot small little town which is almost dead. The small town is so peaceful that the villager could just leave their keys on the motorbike! And during the afternoon it is hard to find a place for lunch as most of the shops are not opened, not that there are many to begin with.

We left KL around 9pm after work and reached there after midnight and ‘checked-in’ to a hostel; exceptionally clean wooden house with 4 rooms and mattress that you can choose from.

On Saturday morning, hardly having a wink of sleep, we have to wake up at 4.15am to climb the small hill to watch sunrise! With almost empty stomach, unless you are willing to eat junk food in the morning; which all that we have.

It was a 45 minutes climb which isn’t too difficult if you have some stamina. It was a starry night and the weather was cooling and very fresh! But we reached the peak quite early, around 5am-ish and the sun didn’t rise till around 7am!    Plenty of time for those professional photographer to set up their SLR on tripod and the rest chatted and complaining how hungry are we. It was quite a pretty view when the sun finally rose!

After that, we hiked down, had delicious breakfast, and roamed about the small town on foot (which took less than an hour) and back to nap.

Lunch at Kuantan since we couldn’t find a shop that opened for meal! Actually we were glad to escape Sg Lembing as it was unbelievable hot, hot, hot weather!

At night, we had BBQ dinner which we bbq on our own. It was rather fun although a lot of food was wasted. And my insomnia seemed to perish with the lack of sleep the day before. The next morning we have to get up at 5am! Hey, I thought it was a holiday?

<to be cont..>

Being not-so-hungry, we are not too sure what to eat on Sunday night. When we saw the promotion for Hainan Village at Manjalara, Kepong, we decided to give it a try.

It was really a very value meal as they are so many dishes for RM9.80 and it was quite good. Though the green curry chicken gravy isn’t as thick as I like, it tasted quite nice too.

The tempura-styled-deep-fried-kang-kung is really crispy and scrumptious. All the side dishes are yummy too except for the soup-of-the-day which is just like what you get at hawker stall. But for RM9.80 it was acceptable and worth it.

I ordered a French toast which I have forgotten to take the picture as I was too engrossed with the food! It was really delicious as well and I will certainly be back for more!

This year, even with a little love to KFC, I have decided to stand firm and ban KFC for a year after watching the KFC cruelty chicken video.

I have found many of the KFC cruelty videos in YouTube and other sites. I wanted to put up a video here but decided to remove it as it was really too cruel to look at. You can find a lot of the videos here.

Though I really missed the crispy fried chicken, I have stand it for more than six month and I keep reminding about the cruelty. Well, let just see if I can make the same resolution next year.

Anyway, I really miss fried chicken as I have sort of refrain myself from indulging it due to my high cholesterol. But after seeing the mouth watering lunch pictures taken by BabyFiona, I couldn’t help but try it for myself!

Yes, the Korean BBQ Chicken

I must admit I have never known its existence. But since it is fried using olive oil, I suppose it is rather healthy, or maybe just not that sinful, right? At first I thought it was a fast food as I was going to the counter to order. But it is a restaurant alright.

I ordered the smoked chicken after battling for 5 minutes over it with teriyaki chicken. However I had a taste of one of the original
fried chicken as well. It was really very yummy, despite the restaurant being rather empty on Saturday night.

The smoked chicken is very tender and tasteful and the whipped potato is good too when it was warm.

The fried chicken is really crunchy and yummy!!! Writing this post and looking at the pictures make me wanna go back again soon! Drool~!!!

But the drink is a little expensive, RM5.50 for a soft drink! But at least it is bottomless and being cheapskate, we ordered one drink and shared among two. :P

During the 4 hours boat ride, we stopped twice on the island. This is the first stop :

We stopped by an island with spectacular caves, high ceilings and… well, I didn't listen to the history by the tour guide as I was too busy capturing pictures..

The cave, very beautiful.. better than Gua Tempurung..

We had our lunch on the boat, which was prepared on the boat too! What water was being used to cook? I was a little worried. But it tasted OK and some were nice too since we were hungry..

The sun finally revealed itself after lunch, making the sky so blue and it was lovely! But it was the end of the 4 hours boat trip. Heading back to the mainland..

Upon reaching mainland, we were back on the little bus and headed back to Hanoi on the 4-5 hours journey~!

Halong Bay is indeed one of the prettiest places that I have been to. I mean nature place, apart from Koh Samui, with the white sandy beaches on those lovely island! Man, I am mesmerized, again!

We set out pretty early, around 8-ish in the morning to the jetty with many boats! I simply love the view. I always like jetty full of boats, feel like real holiday and I could forget all my stress and worries. =)

Though the weather was a little gloomy, I still can't help feeling excited like a small kid. I love the sound of the waves and the huge spread of green water gleaming under the sun and the wind blowing against my cheek with my eyes closed. Wonderful!

There are also many mobile sellers on the small boats approaching our boats! They are selling fruits and also seafoods. Most of them have small children with them which are rather a pitiful sight. They grew up on the small boats and their life is practically on the sea. I can't imagine living like that, can you?

Sometimes I would complaint about my lack of wealth-ness and about life when I have am leading a good life with stable job. I believe a lot of people do that too.

I suppose there are many more people living in poverty and poor living condition that are worse than us.

These pictures taken in Halong Bay, Vietnam remind me how lucky I am to have what I have. They practically live on the boat and sell food to the visitors everyday. How sad.. :(

Trishaw~

Filed Under Vietnam, photo | 2 Comments

I like this photo a lot~

Taken on the 1 hour trishaw ride for USD5 around the Hanoi city. It’s rather fun although a little scary as you were seated at the front of the trishaw and many motorbike were coming from all direction.

Will they hit me?!?

The answer is no. The trishaw peddler and other motorist are so good in manoeuvring that they could avoid each other at the very last second!

It’s great to see the city without having to walk on your own. (^.^)

Most of the people in Vietnam work in the agricultural sector and you could see a lot of paddy fields along the way.

According to "Sun", our tour guides, women in Vietnam are very hard working and faithful to their husband. They would do all the hard work and serve their husband well.
Vietnam wives, anyone? (I think only costing around RM20K for a permanent maid that could bear you children and serve you well! Pretty too! Good deal, eh?)

In one occasion, "Sun" said, woman can never say no. Ahhh, I wondered if he really meant it. Try Malaysian woman, they can say louder no than man and nothing makes them to do against their will (or at least me). :P

I see a lot of mobile sellers on the street; either on their bicycle or by foot and mostly woman! Their products range from varieties of fruits, household stuffs, clothing, accessories and even bra; which they carry on the two baskets, balancing on their shoulder with a rod.

Another different culture is most Vietnamese like to sit at the "mini stalls" by the roadside with ridiculously small stools! I think they served food and drinks but I didn't have chance to try any of it. According to SlowCatchUpKuan who tried them, some was rather nice.

The tour guide said the stools are small so that they can run faster when the police come after them as it was illegal stalls. There are just too many stalls along the way though. And people likes sit by the roadside either for chit chatting or for a game of chess! So relaxing (and dusty)!

You can see many "mini stalls" at the road side~

So what's with Hanoi? The country barely achieved their independence less than 30 years. So it is like Malaysian in the seventies I suppose, which I wasn't even born yet!

It is rather mundane town with some old classical buildings, all slim and tall. It was slim as everyone wants a piece of land by the roadside and thus they are given a narrow land but the people could build as high as they want. So many buildings are 3 storeys and above and people do business in front of the house. But it was a pretty sight as if you stepped back into older times.

Our tour guide, known as "Sun" (his given name) told us that there are 3 slim things in Hanoi.

- First is the person, they are mostly slim! It's true! I hardly see any fat people there.
- Second is the building. Slim and tall~ Graceful~!

- Third is their road! Slim but messy with traffics coming from all the direction, full of honking that drives you crazy!

Another thing I noticed is their cables by the roadside! Man, how messy they could be! One electrical pole has so many cables coming out of it and I really wondered how the electricians work on them and how dangerous could it be!
